A 1948 model NK 12 dining table made by Knoll, apparently one of the earliest produced furniture designs by the famous studio craftsman George Nakashima. Not really in his style, but noteworthy to collectors. This example was loose just about everywhere there was glue. This included all the surface veneer, which had to be carefully removed, re-flattened, re-jointed, re-seamed, and reapplied. Not a common procedure at all. The client wanted to retain some of of the aged patina, which made for an interesting challenge when combined with the already tricky, very unusual veneer work.

I think it turned out pretty well. For more pictures and detailed descriptions, visit the Facebook page here. Let me know if there is a uniquely demanding piece of furniture I can refinish for you.

This was an excellent little cabinet and great example of a perfect refinishing candidate. These Thin Edge pieces are very nicely constructed but the lacquer at this point was old and crazing, cracking. The Brazilian Rosewood veneer had typical surface wear but was also very dark at this point, hiding a lot of the color and character. After stripping, surface prep, and applying a new precatalyzed lacquer finish, it will be good for another 60 years.

This was a nice Model 59 chair designed by Harry Østergaard and manufactured by Randers Mobelfabrik in Denmark in the 1960s. The frame was loose and a chunk had broken off the end of a stretcher where it meets the back leg. As usual, the whole thing was knocked apart and reglued. While it was disassembled, a dutchman repair was done to replace the missing bit and then finished out to match. The rest of the chair was cleaned up and glued back together. No refinishing on this job because it needed to match the rest of the set.
