1948 Knoll Table by George Nakashima
A 1948 model NK 12 dining table made by Knoll, apparently one of the earliest produced furniture designs by the famous studio craftsman George Nakashima. Not really in his style, but noteworthy to collectors. This example was loose just about everywhere there was glue. This included all the surface veneer, which had to be carefully removed, re-flattened, re-jointed, re-seamed, and reapplied. Not a common procedure at all. The client wanted to retain some of of the aged patina, which made for an interesting challenge when combined with the already tricky, very unusual veneer work.
I think it turned out pretty well. For more pictures and detailed descriptions, visit the Facebook page here. Let me know if there is a uniquely demanding piece of furniture I can refinish for you.
